The Black identity and representation are explored through these collage portraits. Black men and women have historically been misrepresented in news stories that paint a picture to reinforce stereotypes making it hard to identify with us. Our existence has been expressed in very narrow terms but our blackness can be complex and yet is as simple as being human. By capturing the beauty and resilience of Black men and women, I aim to show the world the many sides of being Black. I believe the representation of African Americans is important to see so that the stereotypical narratives will not continue to be the overall view of who we are. This series will continue to challenge the societal views people have of Black individuals and hope to uplift the ones affected by these stereotypes.
